Overview of our Senior School
The Senior School provides a supportive environment where young adults develop
the skills, understanding and values necessary for success. A team culture of
cooperation, support and mutual respect between staff and students is central to
the life of our senior school. Our focus is to maximise every student’s
opportunity to succeed in their chosen pathway.
The Year Ten program introduces students to the Victorian Certificate of
Education
(VCE) and Vocational Education & Training (VET) courses. At Year Ten students
start formal examinations for the first time in preparation for their VCE. They
are involved in extra curricula programs – interschool sport, performing arts,
and peer support. Students study English, Mathematics, Industry and Enterprise,
SOSE and Science as core subjects. The other subjects are electives, and
students choose these based on their interest. Students are required to
undertake work experience during the year, and participate in Mock Interviews.
Year 11 and 12 students focus on either a VCE or a VCAL program, and may select
a VET. In the VCE program, students undertake six VCE or VET subjects. Some Year
Eleven students start their Year Twelve program by taking a Unit 3&4 subject
while still in Year Eleven. This subject will count toward their ENTER score for
university.
The VCAL program consists of Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills and
Personal Development. Students attend school for three days in the week, are at
a work placement for one day and at their VET course for one day. We offer a
number of VET courses on campus – Hospitality, Engineering, Business
Administration, Building and Construction and Childcare.
All Year Twelve students are required to complete five Unit 3&4 subjects; a
number of our non-English speaking background students study a language through
the Victorian School of Languages. This final year of secondary school is very
demanding for all students. The school supports them through the provision of
private study facilities in the form of our new Study Centre (open from 8.00am
till 5.00pm each day). Year Twelve students are the leadership group within the
school and present themselves as role models to the other students at the
college.
The College provides opportunities for students to develop and further their
leadership skills, and undertake activities and programs which challenge and
develop their potential. The Senior Sub-School promotes student leadership
through a process of application writing and selection for College Captains,
College Vice-Captains, Senior Committee members, and Home Group Captains. The
appointment of captains, vice-captains and senior committee members is announced
at Awards Night in December.
